This makes up for the lack of genetic good looks, absent in the average Malaysian with his pugnose, could-use-orthodontic-treatment and repeat fashion-offender traits. I’ve known Esther since we were both 7 – we’ve known each for 23 years now – so I’d like to make a toast to her.

When you start moving up the corporate ladder, presentation becomes more and more crucial. People judge you by the way you dress, the way you walk, and for ladies, the way they make themselves up. Going bare-faced is a no-no and even the way you do your hair comes into play.
This isn’t necessarily about prettifiying one’s self over substance. (Of course, for those who just happen to look good, they may face discrimination because people think beautiful women have it easier. But that’s another story.)
